La Rosière Centre: the border resort
Perched at an altitude of 1,850 meters, La Rosière is a ski resort overlooking the Tarentaise Valley. A prime destination for all mountain and winter sports enthusiasts, this resort demonstrates what human ingenuity and respect for the environment can achieve when they come together in an exceptional mountain setting.
Nestled in the French Alps on the Italian border , La Rosière was once a small alpine hamlet, rarely visited by tourists. Founded by shepherds, it is now a modern ski resort that has preserved the authenticity and natural beauty of the region. A key moment in La Rosière's history was its connection with the Italian resort of La Thuile , just across the border. This link opened up new possibilities for skiers, allowing them to enjoy the slopes on both sides of the border and explore an exceptionally vast ski area.
Exceptional snowfall
Thanks to its location, La Rosière is among the top 10 snowiest ski resorts, averaging 7 meters of snow. Built on a hillside, La Rosière also offers exceptional panoramic views of the valley and enjoys abundant sunshine throughout the year.
The legendary Little St. Bernard Pass
On the Little St. Bernard Pass, you can see a circle of standing stones at the roadside. An ancient archaeological site, the pass is home to a remarkable megalithic monument, now considered a relic of Hannibal's passage. This Carthaginian statesman indeed crossed the Alps during his great campaign to attack Rome. With his elephants, he crossed the pass and left traces of his passage near La Rosière.
A sustainable station
Committed to the environment and the preservation of its natural heritage, the resort of La Rosière aims to combine tourism and sustainable development . Through numerous initiatives, the resort is dedicated to environmental protection:
- Tree planting: trees contribute to the regulation of our ecosystem by stabilizing soils, filtering water, and preventing erosion;
- Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions;
- More environmentally friendly means of transport: in order to encourage tourists to travel by train, La Rosière offers a 15% discount on a ski pass;
- Reduction of artificial snow production: since 2016, the resort has implemented an innovative hydroelectric program to produce clean energy for its artificial snow network;
- Preservation of natural environments: La Rosière is committed to protecting the fauna and flora on its ski area with the creation of its own Environmental Observatory.
The Franco-Italian ski area
Linking the resorts of La Rosière (in France) and La Thuile (in Italy), the Espace San Bernardo is a ski area unlike any other in the world. With 154 kilometers of slopes, you can enjoy a variety of runs for all levels on both sides of the border. Modern and fast lifts, relaxation areas, and fun zones make it the ideal place to create unforgettable family memories.
La Dolce Vita
The Franco-Italian influence is also evident in the gastronomy of the Espace San Bernardo. You can sample Savoyard specialties in the restaurants of La Rosière, then cross the border to savor authentic Italian dishes in La Thuile. A friendly atmosphere and culinary diversity await, creating a unique experience for food lovers.
Play areas
Mont-Valaisan is the brand new freeride area accessible by two chairlifts. With a summit at 2,800 meters altitude, it's a vast playground that will delight off-piste enthusiasts, allowing them to carve their own tracks on these still-pristine snow-covered slopes.
To immortalize your visit to La Rosière, take advantage of the Panoramic Experience photo spot. On a walkway suspended in mid-air, enjoy an incredible view of the Franco-Italian border and a true tête-à-tête with Mont Blanc.
Dare to enjoy a Savoyard fondue in the heart of an igloo? The igloo village of La Rosière welcomes you in an unusual setting for a unique experience.
Finally, boardercross and funcross courses are available for families and friends at various locations throughout the ski area. Tunnels, whoops, modules, obstacles – who will cross the finish line first?
