What is the altitude of Val d'Isère?

Perched at 1,850 meters above sea level, Val d'Isère guarantees exceptional snow cover thanks to its domain ranging from 1800 to 300 meters above sea level. Its proximity to the Tignes glacier allows skiers to also ski in summer while enjoying an exceptional panorama of the valley.

A land of champions

Founded in 1934, Val d'Isère is today the ski resort with the most decorated sports club in the world. Thanks to many exceptional champions, this is a field that has seen the birth of great names in sport. Henri Oreiller, Jean-Claude Killy, or the Goitschel sisters, legends have hit the slopes of Val d'Isère.
Victor Muffat-Jeandet, Léo Taillefer and Clément Noël have taken over and are proud to be the ambassadors of this station.

The events of Val d'Isère

Throughout the year, Val d'Isère is animated by various events

  • Opening weekend and Première Traces: be the first to hit the slopes during the opening weekend;
  • Critérium de la Première Neige: Val d'Isère hosts the Alpine Ski World Cup for men and women every year;
  • Classicaval: for several days, the station showcases classical music in a magical setting;
  • International Adventure and Discovery Film Festival: chaired by Sylvain Tesson, this festival brings together all nature lovers around several adventure film screenings.

Tignes-Val d'Isère ski area

Formerly known as Espace Killy, the Tignes-Val d'Isère ski area is one of the most renowned winter sports destinations in the world. With snowy peaks, picturesque valleys and breathtaking panoramas, it is a spectacular setting for winter adventures.

Offering an unforgettable experience for ski and snowboard enthusiasts, it stretches over 300 kilometres of slopes. From the gentle piste to the steepest slopes, skiers of all levels will find slopes adapted to their skills. 

With more than 90 ski lifts, including modern chairlifts, fast gondolas and panoramic cable cars, access to the slopes is fast and efficient. You will spend less time waiting and more time hitting the slopes.

The highest point of the Tignes-Val d'Isère ski area reaches an impressive altitude of 3,456 metres, guaranteeing excellent snow cover throughout the winter season. This allows skiers to enjoy optimal conditions even at the end of the season.

What to do in Val d'Isère?

Unusual activities

Equipped with crampons and ice axes, discover an exceptional activity with the ice waterfall. Climb a frozen wall combining endurance, delicacy and strength. 
In the frozen lake of Ouillette, learn Ice Floating. Dive into the lake with a dry suit and let yourself be carried away by the calm of the water. Amateur speed? Moonbike, snowmobile or Snooc are activities for you! On marked trails, hit the slopes at full speed and discover the area differently. 

Get some height

Go flirting with the snowy peaks and discover the area differently by gaining height. Different activities are offered to take off: paragliding, speedfly, helicopter flight or microlight will allow you to fly over the ski area to enjoy a unique experience in the air. 

For children

For children, the Valkids is a fun space that allows the youngest to discover the different professions of a ski area. Lift agent, groomer or manufacturer of artificial snow, children can put themselves in the skin of an operating agent. 

The beginner area of Sunny Ride has different foam modules and obstacles to learn skiing while having fun. 

Ski rental in Val d'Isère Centre with Ski Republic

To rent a ski online on our website, simply: 

  • Select the ski resort where you plan to go;
  • Enter your dates of stay;
  • Choose the type of equipment you want to rent (skis, snowboards, shoes). You can also specify your preferences, such as skill level, size and other characteristics;
  • Add additional options such as damage insurance, Carré Neige insurance, ski lockers…

Once you have filled in this information, you can pay the entire reservation or simply a deposit. Then, from your customer area, you can change or cancel your rental at any time up to 24 hours before the first day of skiing. 

Coming to Val d'Isère Centre

Access to Val d'Isère is easy, and here are some options to get there. If you come by plane, the nearest airports are Chambéry, Geneva and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry. You can then take a shuttle bus that will take you to the station. Bourg-Saint-Maurice Train Station is the closest train station to Val d'Isère, about 30 kilometres away. From here you can take a bus that provides the connection. Finally, if you prefer driving, you can take the road to Val d'Isère. Make sure you have winter tires and snow chains, as mountain roads can be snowy and slippery in winter. Val d'Isère is accessible from the A43 motorway via Albertville and then via the RN90. 

Whichever transportation option you choose, be sure to plan your trip in advance, especially during the ski season, when Val d'Isère is busy. Once you arrive, you can enjoy the beautiful alpine scenery, world-renowned ski slopes and the warm atmosphere of this exceptional mountain resort.
