In winter the resort offers 185 kms of ski runs, i.e. 115 signposted itineraries for all levels (21 green, 45 blue, 40 red and 10 black runs). The vast majority of these slopes are at an altitude of over 2000 m, so they benefit from optimal snow cover throughout the winter season and provide everyone with an intoxicating feeling of freedom in the heart of unspoilt nature.

In addition to these circuits reserved for downhill skiers, there are 45 km of snowshoe and cross-country skiing trails in the middle of a breathtaking landscape.

VARS, THE FASTEST RESORT IN THE WORLD!

Since 1991, the resort has also owed its success to its KL (kilometre launched) run located in Vars-Chabrière. Together with the Verbier piste in Switzerland, it is one of the only two pistes approved by the FIS (International Ski Federation) and is therefore sufficiently safe to be authorised to exceed 200 km/hour. Skiers enjoy 1220 metres of descent at a dizzying speed and a 700-metre finish area.

Vars: four hamlets for one village

The village of Vars, suspended at an altitude of 1850 m, brings together several mountain hamlets, some of which are very old. They stretch along the road to the Grandes Alpes and are situated within a perimeter of 1000 to 1800 metres around the centre of the resort. These hamlets, where Vars ski hire is available, are linked by a free shuttle bus. They are :

  • Saint-Marcellin, the first and oldest village,
  • Vars Sainte-Marie, gateway to the estate,
  • Vars Sainte-Catherine, on a mountainside,
  • Les Claux, the centre of the resort created in 1962. Set in a larch forest, this small hamlet at the foot of the Crêtes de L'Eyssina is equipped with all the service facilities of a winter sports resort.

The Vars valley is renowned for the charm and authenticity of its traditional habitat, listed as part of the heritage of the Hautes-Alpes in 1946, and for the beauty of the site where mountain pastures, meadows and larch forests mingle.

The activities of a lively resort

On the sliding side, the resort has no shortage of activity possibilities. Riders of all levels can find themselves in one of the six snowparks of the resort under the watchful eye of a specialised instructor. For the little ones, there is a tobogganing area and related activities as well as a snowmobile circuit to give them their first sensations. The resort rivals in imagination day and night to offer you unforgettable moments such as night skiing and freestyle sessions on the Ecrins piste. In the company of a high mountain guide you will also taste the wonderful sensations of off-piste skiing and for extreme skiers, incredible descents on the Eyssina and Chabrières ranges!

Are you coming with your family or friends? Don't miss dog-sled rides or adult snow scooter rides! The resort also invites you to live an igloo adventure through a unique one-night experience in this strange habitat.
